Patrick Stewart talks about how Star Trek: Picard is different from the old series

In January of 2020, Sir Patrick Stewart is returning to space, the final frontier, with Star Trek: Picard. Set roughly 18 years after the events of Star Wars: Nemesis and the destruction of the planet Romulus, the show finds Jean-Luc Picard hanging out on his vineyard with his trusty dog Number One.

Stewart will be joined by former The Next Generation castmates Brent Spiner (Data), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), and Jonathan Frakes (William T. Riker), as well as Star Trek: Voyager’s Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine). It’s a reunion in space, and Picard is bringing the wine.

Anyway, on Tuesday, Stewart was on Jimmy Kimmel Live and talked about the show, among a lot of other stuff.

“18 years have passed since The Next Generation crew were on camera, which was our last film Nemesis,” Stewart said. “The world has changed in 18 years. The world of the Federation and Starfleet has changed. Patrick Stewart has changed because he’s a lot older than he was when we were last at Paramount making the series.”

"This means that what we have is something different, something new. And I hope there won’t be too much disappointment that there isn’t an Enterprise or the crew…but it’s a changed world. And we find Picard, he’s at home on the Chateau Picard Vineyard with his pitbull."

Stewart goes on to say that he’s seen the first five episodes of the show, and he “thinks they really are good.”

Oh, and he also chats about hanging out with the damn Beatles back in the day, but you can watch that part yourself.
