For much of Game of Thrones, Missandei of Narth serves as Dany’s advisor and translator, in addition to being one of her closest friends. And like the other women in the series, Missandei is given a number of interesting and stunning outfits. But her clothing changes drastically when she follows Dany across the sea to Westeros, shifting from light garments to darker, heavier ones, again heralding the show’s transition into more serious territory.

For much of the seventh and eighth seasons, Missandei wears a black ensemble that resembles the clothing worn by her queen — and given the tradition of women of the court modeling their looks after their leaders, that makes sense. But Missandei’s attire during the later seasons isn’t just about style. It also signifies her unwavering loyalty to Daenerys.

Not only does Missandei seem to adapt to whatever region of Westeros she finds herself in —  blending in much like Tyrion does in an attempt to practice diplomacy with Dany’s would-be subjects —  but she also constantly wears a dragon brooch, making it clear to just about everyone who’s side she’s on.
