Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show puts out “urgent” call for actors

Have you ever wanted to visit Middle-earth and frolic as a hobbit? Or inspire fear and wonder as an elf? Well now’s your chance! As the streaming wars heat up, e-commerce giant Amazon is planning a massive entry into the market with a billion dollar series set in the world created by Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien.

Set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, the show has already hired a bunch of cast members, including Game of Thrones veteran Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark) as a villain. But that’s not all they want. Casting agency BGT is in desperate need of extras. They’re looking for humans beings of every shape, size and age, so if you’ve got a pulse you’ve got a chance!

Filming in Auckland, New Zealand ahead of an anticipated debut sometime in 2021, BGT is searching for, among others: hairy men and women, older men and women with “lived in” faces, faces with freckles or scars, very tall or very short folks, and “ethereal” people, probably to play elves. What exactly these roles are, BGT isn’t saying. “It’s such a massive series, we can never have enough faces,” said a spokesperson.

Circus performers and magicians are also welcome. All of the roles are “background extra and featured extra roles (with opportunities to upgrade to larger roles,” so if anyone’s ever told you you have an elvish look to you, fame and fortune await!

Now the fine print: any and all extras must be legally able to work in New Zealand, have their own transportation, and not already be signed with another talent agency. This is a 40-hour-a-week gig that would run at least through Christmas and possibly into the new year. For those who meet any of the criteria, full application details — including who should contact — can be found here. Don’t waste you’re freckled, scarred, ethereal looks on children’s parties. Be a part of the world’s next big TV show!
