Today in things that just will not die, more people are demanding that Warner Bros. release Zack Snyder’s long-ballyhooed rough cut of Justice League, a 2017 DC superhero movie that no one really liked.

The story, if you’re justing joining us: While directing Justice League, which was to be Warner Bros.’ answer to Marvel’s The Avengers, director Zack Snyder had to pull out due to a family tragedy. Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought in finish the film, which edicts from Warner Bros. to cut it down below 120 minutes and to insert more humor, since no one seemed to very much like the grimdark stylings of the previous year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Anyway, Whedon did what he did, the movie came out to a rousing chorus of “meh,” and we moved on. Only we didn’t because almost as soon as the movie was out fans were clamoring for “the Snyder cut,” a rough cut of the movie with unfinished special effects shots and unmixed audio. The movie wasn’t a box office smash, so the prospects of Warner Bros. spending millions of more dollars to get the Snyder Cut ready to ship seemed unlikely.

But the movement to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hasn’t died in subsequent years, but rather gotten some very vocal supporters. The latest include stars Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman)…

…Ray Fisher (Cyborg)…

…and Ben Affleck (Batman):

Snyder retweeted both Gadot and Affleck, so he’s on board, too. Where’s your tweet, Henry Cavill (Superman)? And yours, Ezra Miller (the Flash). Join the revolution.

As Slate points out, these close-in-time tweets from stars and director seem like more than happenstance. They feel a little like a marketing campaign, as though Warner Bros. is responding to the calls to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut and is actually going to…you know, release the Snyder Cut. Hopefully, we’ll find out for sure before long.
