Sci-fi light and dark: New trailers for Avenue 5 and The Expanse season 4

We’ve got a pair of sci-fi trailers to amuse and delight you today. First, Amazon has dropped the latest trailer for The Expanse season 4, which is making its triumphant return after being cancelled by SyFy. The third season ended with the opening of the Ring Gate, which gave humanity access to thousands of Earth-like planets. In season 4, the people of Mars, Earth and the Belt — always in conflict — rush to colonize the planet of Ilus, which is rich in natural resources once used by a long-dead alien civilization. As you can see in the trailer, things don’t go entirely smoothly:

The Expanse season 4 premieres on December 13! I’m eager to see what the show can do now that Amazon has given it freedom and resources.

The Expanse is great, but I’m actually more excited for Avenue 5, the new HBO comedy from Veep creator Armando Iannucci. It’s about a luxury spaceship that runs into trouble during a pleasure voyage, with the crew clashing with upper crust passengers.

“This is a safe space…emotionally. Physically, we’re obviously in terrible danger.” Inject it directly into my veins. I adored Veep and I love sci-fi, so this is basically my dream show.

And what a great cast! That’s Hugh Laurie as Captain Ryan Clark and Josh Gad as Herman Judd, the out-of-touch billionaire owner of the ship. Also on board for the maiden voyage are Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka, Rebecca Front, Lenora Crichlow, Suzy Nakamura and Ethan Phillips.
