Marvel’s Runaways to end with upcoming third season

According to Variety, Marvel’s Runaways is ending after its upcoming third season. Just typing that sentence makes me feel all sorts of sad and upset. Season 3 will premiere on December 13 on Hulu.

It seems like ever since Netflix canceled its slate of Marvel superhero shows, others have been following suit. Last month, Freeform announced that Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger was canceled as well. What is going on?!

It probably has to do with Disney+. The House of Mouse has its own streaming service now, and likely wants its properties gathered where it can see them, although the company does own Hulu. Perhaps the House of Mouse would rather its Marvel shows be on one platform rather than spreading them out.

Honestly, there are a myriad of reasons at play here, but I’m just sad to see Marvel’s Runaways go, especially when we were about to get a crossover with Cloak & Dagger — it’s just not fair!

As of now, there is only one active live-action Marvel series left: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on ABC, which is also ending after its upcoming seventh season. And that will mark the end of live-action Marvel shows, at least until the Disney+ originals — LokiThe Falcon and the Winter SoldierHawkeye and WandaVision — premiere.

Well, it’s almost the end of live-action Marvel shows. TV Line reports that Hulu has dropped its Ghost Rider over creative differences, but it’s still moving forward with Marvel’s HelstromDeadline recently reported on casting news for Helstrom, which promises to be dark and scary.

I am genuinely excited for the upcoming slate of Marvel shows on Disney+, especially Loki, but we can still have a moment of silence for the shows that are ending so that awesomeness can happen. Goodbye,Marvel’s Runaways. You will be missed. I hope you at least go out with a bang!
