Episode 805: “Prochnost”

And finally, we come to the show that started it all. Of the five Arrowverse shows currently airing, Arrow is my favorite. There has been so much buildup to the Crisis, but there’s still a good balance of everything else.

I’m loving that the kids from the future are now working with Oliver and the rest of Team Arrow. This just means that the Arrowverse crossover is going to be bigger and better than we had hoped, and I can’t wait!

This week takes Team Arrow to Russia and brings back two familiar faces. In Russia, Oliver catches up with Anatoly while Diggle seeks out Roy for help. Not only does Roy help Diggle find the plutonium they were looking for, but he comes out of hiding and decides to get back with the team. Bloodlust be damned.

Side note: Arrow is doing a great job assimilating past characters into the final season. They aren’t bombarding us with too much nostalgia at once and are letting us enjoy it at a nice and easy pace.

Anyway, Team Arrow is in Russia hoping to find General Alexi Burov, who just might have the weapon that could take down the Monitor. Oliver is in a bit of a predicament here because Russia marks a dark time in his past and he doesn’t want his children to know the details. Of course, that doesn’t work out too well, and by the end, he’s willing to tell them everything.

As a result of keeping them at a distance, the trip to Russia is a bit rocky at first. Oliver doesn’t want Mia to get too involved in what they’re doing, but she’s trained to do so much more. I’m glad he finally caves in and lets her kick ass in the ring with him. It was a father/daughter fight scene I think we all were waiting for.

The fighting ring came about because as long as Oliver fought and won, he’d get the plans to the weapon he wants. Unfortunately, Mia and Oliver end up getting captured by the Bratva. Remember when I said Mia is a badass? Well, that works in their favor here, as she passes the “ring the bell” test Oliver was subjected to many years ago.

Oliver and Mia go back to fight while Anatoly and Laurel are tasked with finding the plans. It’s a bit tricky here because I wasn’t sure we could trust Laurel. After all, the Monitor asked her (through Lyla) to get him the plans before Oliver gets them. And in return, he’d give Earth back to her. The old evil Laurel may have opted to betray Team Arrow, but nope, not this one. Not only does she refuse to hand over the plans to Lyla, but she exposes her in front of Diggle and Oliver. But as this betrayal comes to light, Diggle, Laurel and Oliver are hit by tranquilizer darts and knocked out. Uh, what the heck just happened here?
