With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker just a month away, it seems that promotion for the film is cropping up everywhere. New trailers and images have been released, magazine covers have been dedicated to the movie, and now Disney has released 12 new character posters in anticipation of the big finale.
These posters showcase the major faces we’ll see throughout the final film, so naturally, Rey and Kylo Ren are front and center. The background for each poster is minimal — a dark, starry sky — so none of them reveal anything significant about the characters’ story arcs. But Kylo is wielding his red lightsaber and wearing his mask, suggesting he’s ready for a fight.
Rey, on the other hand, isn’t holding her lightsaber, which is surprising given that she spent most of the previous film mastering the Force. That said, the weapon is on her hip — and we can confidently say she’ll probably need to use it again before the credits roll. Just like Kylo, Rey looks ready to fight at any moment. Hopefully, she’ll use that spirit to resist the Dark Side.
We’ve also got new posters of Finn and Poe, both of whom look ready to defend what’s left of the Resistance. Finn looks ready to fight or flee — we really can’t tell which — and Poe’s got a weapon in hand (which he’ll probably need again before the trilogy is through).
And speaking of the Resistance, fans also get a look at some new characters. Jannah, who will be portrayed by Naomi Ackie, appears here holding arrows, her weapon of choice. Judging by other photos, she uses a bow with two grips. Ackie looks fierce on her poster, and she’ll need to be as one of the Resistance’s newest leaders.
Zorii Bliss is also among the new characters included in the poster series. Keri Russell’s character dons a golden helmet and a red-and-gold bodysuit that’s got some pretty interesting-looking weapons attached to it. If one thing is certain about The Rise of Skywalker, it’s that the film is going to have plenty of badass women in it.
The remainder of the posters showcase the franchise’s popular supporting characters, including Lando, C-3PO, R2-D2, BB-8 and Chewbacca.
There’s also a new droid thrown into the mix called D-O. (There are a lot of droids in this final movie, aren’t there?) This could very well be the last time fans see some of these characters featured on an official Star Wars poster, so we’d better get ready to say goodbye.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
