CAUTION: SPOILERS FOR THE MANDALORIAN FOLLOW

Did you watch the first two episodes of The Mandalorian on Disney+? If so, you know that the story turns on an adorable, 50-year-old alien baby — a member of Yoda’s species, as it happens — who everybody wants to get ahold of, for some reason.

One of those people in the Client, played by German cult filmmaker Werner Herzog. Talking to Variety, Herzog gushed about his tiny costar:

“I’ve seen it on the set, and it’s heartbreaking. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful,” Herzog said. “It’s a phenomenal technical achievement.”

No arguments from us:

Apparently, Baby Yoda is created at least partially with puppetry. Herzog is a big fan of doing things practically, as producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni illustrated to The Hollywood Reporter. During one take, Favreau and Filoni were going to remove the Baby Yoda puppet so they could replace him with a CGI version, but Herzog was having none of it.

"Filoni: “[Herzog] goes, ‘What are you doing?’ He says, ‘You are cowards. Leave it. Leave it.’ He was so committed.”Favreau: “It was so awesome.”"

Honestly, just give me more Werner Herzog interviews from here on out. He should be the lone cast member allowed to talk to the press.

Speaking of Favreau, now that he’s embedded in the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian showrunner is doing his darndest to remake the Star Wars Holiday Special. You may have noticed a reference to “Life Day” in the Mandalorian pilot. That’s a celebration from the holiday special, and if Favreau has his way, we’ll be getting more of that.

Speaking with Variety, Favreau not only confirmed he’s ready to pull the trigger on a new Holiday Special, but that he also has a cast member in mind. “Oh, I would definitely be interested in doing a holiday special,” he said. “And I’m not going to say who I would be interested in, but one of the people is the member of cast in an upcoming episode of the show. So we’ll leave it at that for now.”

New episodes of The Mandalorian hits Disney + every Friday. When is the sequel to the Star Wars Holiday Special airing? Watch for the signs.
