Wedding bells ring in new images from Outlander season 5

Entertainment Weekly just gave Outlander fans an exciting sneak peek into season 5. We’ve got a wedding to look forward to, Claire and Jamie’s new home, and of course, Adso, the adorable cute kitten. Let’s look at some of these exciting new images!

First up, Claire and Jamie look on as — I assume — their daughter Brianna weds Roger Wakefield MacKenzie. Just look at their faces; those are some proud, emotional parents.

And also look at Jamie’s head. Is that a new hairdo? “He finally stopped cutting his bangs,” said star Sam Heughan. “There are always some fans who appreciate something while others don’t. You can’t please everyone all the time. But I’m pleased with the look this season. He’s older. He’s mature.”

Anyway, in attendance will be everyone from Lord John Grey (who is very much in love with Jamie) to Governor Tyron (who is waiting for Jamie to take some action against the Scottish resistance who are pushing back against British taxation). It’s safe to assume Murtagh, Jamie’s godfather, will not be there, since he is on the run. What a shame for him to miss such a joyous event!

EW spoke to Sam Heughan earlier this year on set in Scotland, where he shared what this situation is like for Jamie.

"Jamie’s actually in a really difficult situation this season. He’s done a deal with the British, but he’s working for two different camps. He’s trying to protect his people, and he’s trying to protect Fraser’s Ridge. To be honest, we all know Jamie’s heart. His line of thinking is more in the direction of the regulators than the Brits."

I had the same thought. How is he going to fight the resistance when he’s very much been a part of it in the past?!

And there’s more! The wedding will surely be a wonderful moment, but it doesn’t mean Brianna has worked through the trauma she experienced last season. She still has a lot to unpack, and with the return of Stephen Bonnet, it’s only going to get worse. How will that affect Roger’s confidence in his ability to take care of her and the child, which may or may not be his (paternity test pending).

Sophie Skelton explains what this emotional back and forth will mean for Sophie in season 5:

"There’s kind of a two-prong thing of Bree. She’s just in a lot of pain emotionally and physically. That’s one thing that I really wanted to keep going with this season. I wanted to make sure the post-traumatic stress syndrome—from the rape—is a tether for Bree. Being intimate and physically close to Roger is going to be a lot more difficult than it was [before the assault]."

While the couple works through these issues, they can at least look forward to getting the cabin to themselves. It turns out Jamie truly is the best husband ever, because this season he and Claire will move into the new two-story home he built for her. That house will be the center of Fraser’s Ridge, and a place where Claire can apply her intellect.

“Fans of the book will know this sort of stuff is coming up,” said star Caitriona Balfe. “Claire makes her own medicine. It’s been really interesting having her find ways of being able to perform certain surgeries that would have been so commonplace in the 1960s.”
