Thank the maker, Baby Yoda toys are coming to a store near you
By Corey Smith
Move over, BB-8: there’s a new king of the Star Wars merchandise mountain, and our lives will never be the same. Since making his (or her) debut in the closing moments of The Mandalorian’s premiere episode, Baby Yoda has put a Force chokehold on our hearts, and now CBR reports Disney will release a range of Baby Yoda merchandise in time for the holiday season.
Let us all give thanks.
CBR doesn’t have exact details of what kinds of merch might be in store, although we know there will be “apparel and accessories.” I think we can assume that a Baby Yoda plush is a go. Whatever it is, the merch will be sold at major retailers like Target, Amazon and Kohl’s. And also Hot Topic. It’s a little weird that Disney didn’t have Baby Yoda merch ready the day The Mandalorian debuted, but maybe even they weren’t ready for how quickly everyone took to the little guy.
If adorable or green aliens aren’t your thing, there’s plenty more merch to sample. Chronicle Collectibles is releasing a pair of faux bronze busts of two of Star Trek’s most famous captains, Jean-Luc Picard and Christopher Pike.
Creative Director for Chronicle Jared Chapman explained why they choose these two guys for the two 1:2-scale busts.
"For over 30 years, Jean-Luc Picard has shown us the qualities of a true captain. Despite his traumas and trials, his wisdom and confidence as a strong leader will always galvanize those around him. Christopher Pike carries himself with a poise and tenacity we expect of a 23rd century starship captain. He’s cool and professional and inspires loyal admiration from his crew. Both Captains uphold the very best of the Federation and Starfleet."
Hard to argue with that logic, even if we’re not sure where we would put one of these.
If board games are more your thing, consider this Dungeons & Dragons version of CLUE:
Honestly, we’re surprised this hasn’t been made before.
Elsewhere, ComingSoon gives us a sneak peek at the next line of Westworld action figures. This new line from Diamond Select Toys features James Marsden’s Teddy, Angela Sarafyan’s Clementine and Jeffrey Wright’s Bernard. The fully articulated 7 inch figures are expected to retail for $19.99.
Leaving the killer robots behind, House Beautiful alerted us to this adorable line of Harry Potter-inspired ornaments from Hallmark. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Doby, Hedwig and the Sorting Hat are among those available, retailing individually for $7.99. There are also Mystery Box editions of the ornaments, smaller and less detailed, that retail for $3.99, but you have the potential to end up with Snape, Dumbledore or Lord Voldermort. I’ll stick with Hedwig, thank you very much.
Regardless of what gift you choose, you’ll need something to wrap it in right? For that task, we humbly recommend this line of Harry Potter-inspired wrapping paper, courtesy of MinaLima’s Wizarding shop in Diagon Alley London.
From The Daily Prophet to the Marauder’s Map, there are several designs available, starting at around $8 a sheet, with worldwide shipping available.
Okay, so we’ve talked about a lot of stuff you can touch and feel and smell if it pleases. What something you can watch? To mark the fifteenth birthday of beloved series Avatar: The Last Airbender, Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment are putting out a limited edition steelbook collection containing all three seasons, plus a bunch of extras!
This set won’t be available until February, but you can preorder it here.
Finally, Titan Books is releasing The Art and Making of The Expanse, which is all about the making of the SyFy darling turned Amazon tentpole, with plentiful commentary from authors Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham as well as showrunner Naren Shankar.
