New History and Lore videos explore Maegor the Cruel, the Blackfyre rebellion, and more

HBO is releasing the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones on Blu-ray in just a week! Special features, including deleted scenes, are appearing online.

Now, the History and Lore features from the set are available to watch. Check them out below, starting with Varys talking about the foundations of King’s Landing:

Varys, ever knowledgeable, also talks about the horrific reign of Maegor the Cruel, who definitely earned his name:

Switching gears, Tormund Giantsbane discusses how the wildlings view the southern folk, before and after Jon Snow let them through the Wall:

“They drink too little beer and eat too many plants.” Tormund’s having some fun in this one.

Next up, Jaime Lannister and Euron Greyjoy have a strange conversation about the time Balon Greyjoy, Euron’s brother, rebelled against King Robert Baratheon:

And we’re back to Varys, who is easily the champion of these History and Lore features. Below, the Spider about the Defiance of Duskendale, the event that accelerated the madness of Aerys Targaryen:

Barristan Selmy: BAMF.

Finally, Varys walks us through the Blackfyre rebellions, the biggest threat to Targaryen rule since the Dance of the Dragons:

That’s our Varys, already contemplating putting Jon Snow on the throne by the end of this mini-documentary. Pick a lane, Varys!

You can see these features, plus a lot of other stuff, on the upcoming release of Game of Thrones season 8 on Blu-ray, or on Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection. Both are out on December 3!
