Tom Hiddleston (Loki) originally auditioned to play Thor—Watch the tape
By Dan Selcke
Tom Hiddleston is Loki. I think he’s well-established at this point to say that. Yes, he’s an accomplished actor with a lot of roles under his belt, but so far as the general public knows, he plays the conniving trickster god in Marvel Cinematic Universe, the one who’s a constant thorn in the side of Thor and who even teamed up with Thanos that time and helped a bunch of aliens invade New York City.
Hiddleston talked a little about his upcoming Loki solo series during a recent visit to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (“We go into production next year, and that’s about as much as I can tell you.”), but also revealed something a lot of us didn’t know: that as inescapably tied to Loki as he is today, he originally auditioned for the part of Thor, which went on to be played by Chris Hemsworth.
And Fallon got ahold of the audition tape! Watch as Hiddleston cringes through it below:
Hiddleston does seem a little…slight to play Thor? But maybe that’s just because I’m so used to Hemsworth in the role. In any case, it’s funny to watch him duck and cover as the tape starts to roll.
Also, kudos for being able to cry on cue about how cute Baby Yoda is. I get misty about him too.
