Batwoman Episode 108: “A Mad Tea-Party”
Batwoman is in need of some serious guidance when it comes to keeping its plots coherent. Over the course of the first season, there have been so many things going on at any given time that it’s become hard to track. Not to mention, there’s been no mention of the impending Crisis.
Personally, I’ve had a hard time keeping up with Batwoman mainly because there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. Every Arrowverse show usually has an idea of where it’s headed, but it doesn’t seem like Batwoman does. Is Alice the enemy? Is Kate her own enemy? What about “Mouse”?
The show has been revolving around Kate and Alice’s sibling bond. But my question is, do we really care? I don’t feel like the show has gotten us invested in that relationship, so what’s the point? There is some change on that front in this week’s episode as Kate finally realizes Alice isn’t on her side.
The animosity between the sisters is solidified after Alice poisons Kate’s stepmom, Catherine, and stepsister, Mary. Unfortunately, Catherine dies and Mary lives, since Alice provided just one vial of antidote. Catherine pushes Mary to take the antidote and continue to do good with her clinic. I can’t imagine this is good for Mary and Kate’s relationship.
Another plot I simply don’t care about involves Sophie’s conflicted feelings. She clearly has feelings for Kate, and after coming clean to her fiancé about her and Kate’s past, things are worse than ever. All of this confusion and distrust finally prompts her fiancé Tyler to break up with Sophie. But if you’re asking me, I don’t want Kate to get back with Sophie. She’s most definitely my least favorite character on Batwoman, if not the entire Arrowverse.
That pretty much wraps up this week’s episode of Batwoman, which is a complete letdown considering we’re headed into Crisis on Infinite Earths next week. But hey, at least we got that promo with Nash Wells breaking through the secret chamber in the tunnel. That’s something, right?
