Busting ghosts is serious business in trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Just a couple years after Sony tried to reboot Ghostbusters with Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig,  Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the lead roles, it’s going back to the drawing board again with another take, this time with Paul Rudd and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard.

Sony will reboot this series if it’s the last thing they do, apparently. Check out the trailer below:

While the 2016 movie leaned into zany comedy, this new one looks more somber. Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace play children of a single mother (Carrie Coon) deeded a creepy farmhouse in Oklahoma. Naturally, spooky stuff starts happening, they learn they’re descended from an original Ghostbuster, and Paul Rudd is…I dunno, a local paranormal enthusiast?

A lot of people from the old movies are coming back, including  Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd and Annie Potts. And the movie is directed by Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman. We expect to hear a new smash hit theme song when the movie opens on July 10, 2020.

Speaking of Stranger Things connections, look out for Joe Keery (Steve) to pop up in the trailer for Free Guy, the very high-concept movie about what would happen if a video game NPC (Ryan Reynolds) gained sentience and took control of his life:

Irreverence, they name is Reynolds. Free Guy is out on July 3, 2020.

And finally, you could play this new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 at a rave and no one would miss a beat.

Is the whole movie going to have this hypnotic synth beat? I’m into it. How is Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) alive in the ’80s? Who cares. Just bop your head to the music.

Also looking forward to seeing Kristin Wiig as the villainous Cheetah, and seeing Gal Gadot command the screen again. Also, congrats to Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal for continuing to smash it! Between this and The Mandalorian, guy is unstoppable.

Wonder Woman 1984 comes out in June of 2020.

Next. Playing Professor McGonagall “wasn’t what you’d call satisfying”. dark
