John Boyega thought the choices made in The Last Jedi were “a little iffy”

Well, here we go again. We’re only nine days away from the theatrical debut of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but people can’t stop criticizing The Last Jedi. This time the critique is coming from inside the house, as John Boyega (Finn) opened up about his feelings to Hypbeast.

The Force Awakens I think was the beginning of something quite solid,” Boyega said. “The Last Jedi if I’m being honest I’d say that was feeling a bit iffy for me. I didn’t necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that’s something that I spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about, and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated.”

It sounds like Boyega is criticizing the underdevelopment of his character in The Last Jedi; Finn spent most of the movie with new character Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) in the high-rolling city of Canto Bight, apart from the other principals. “I guess in the original Star Wars films there was much more of a trio feel where it was essentially about Luke’s journey, but, Han and Leia, there was a strong dynamic,” Boyega explained. “Which I think, I don’t know how quickly we’re going to be able to establish that long-term dynamic with [Episode] Nine, but if it’s exploring that dynamic, then that would be cool. I do feel even after three films still, we don’t know them as much as we got to know Han, Luke, Leia. And maybe that’s a great opportunity to get to know them a little bit more.”

Thankfully, it appears as if Rise will bring the sequel trilogy’s big three — Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron — back together for some team-building exercises.

And of course, The Rise of Skywalker may finally answer the long-nagging question about who Rey’s parents are. If you want to find out early, Josh Gad has your back:
