Stranger Things season 4 gets a working title and a production schedule

Production on Stranger Things season 4 finally gets underway right after the holidays are over, and is scheduled to last from January through August of 2020. That’s a very long shooting schedule, so we have hopes that the Duffer Brothers and company are cooking up something very special.

In the meantime, we can speculate wildly about what might be happening behind the scenes. Working off a new issue of Production WeeklyComicBook.com reports that season 4 now has a working title: “Tareco.”

“The hell is a Tareco?” you may be asking. Well, according to Wikipedia, it’s “a little tough biscuit” hailing from the northeastern part of Brazil. That clears things right up, doesn’t it?

Does this mean anything? Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have hinted that the Stranger Things gang may leave Hawkins in season 4. Are they headed for South America? Has there been a Demogorgon attack in Rio de Janeiro? Given what happened in the third season, I think most people are assuming that Russia is the most likely international location for our heroes to visit, but anything can happen.

We may be overthinking this. Famously, Return of the Jedi went by the working title of Blue Harvest when it was shooting, not because that had anything to do with the actual movie but because it threw people off. We could be looking at something like that here.

And in any case, there are other Stranger Things mysteries to solve. For example, is Sheriff Jim Hopper going to be resurrected following his death in the season 3 finale or what? “They won’t tell me anything, so we’ll have to see,” star David Harbour told fans at German Comic Con Dortmund over the weekend. “I think you’ll find out at some point, we’ll find out at some point. Let’s hope he’s alive.”

Yes, let’s. Although if you ask Harbour, death was the next natural place to take the character:

"I think Hopper — from the very beginning I’ve said this — he’s very lovable in a certain way, but also, he’s kind of a rough guy. Certainly in the beginning of Season 1 he’s kind of dark, and he’s drinking, and he’s trying to kill himself, and he hates himself for what happened to his daughter. I feel like, in a sense, that character needed to die. He needed to make some sacrifice to make up for the way he’s been living for the past like 10 years, the resentments that he’s had. So he needed to die."

That’s pretty dark. But does he need to be brought back, too? “Now whether or not there is this second act, whether or not there is some sort of resurrection, whether or not we can see him go off in a certain way, would be really interesting to me. I would love it,” Harbour said. “Anybody watch Lord of the Rings? Gandalf the Grey fights the Balrog, descends into darkness, battles him forever, and everyone thinks he’s dead. And then he re-emerges as Gandalf the White, with sort of a new strength and a new power. That would be an interesting arc for him.”

Jim Hopper comes back to us now, at the turn of the tide.

And of course, there’s always the possibility that the “American” in the Russian jail at the every end of season 3, although Harbour thinks it’s someone entirely different. “Barb,” he joked. “She was American!”

One other bit of fun Stranger Things news before we go: did you happen to see the new trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot?

Well, a lot of folks who have watched this have picked up on some distinct Stranger Things vibes, and they’re not just saying that because Finn Wolfhard (Mike) is in it. As usual, you can count upon Twitter to be frank about these things:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes out in the summer of 2020. Stranger Things season 4 comes out…god, sometime in 2021?

Next. John Boyega thought the choices made in The Last Jedi were “a little iffy”. dark
