Warner Bros. sets release dates for The Matrix 4, The Flash solo film, more
By Dan Selcke
2019 is almost basically over, so why are we still talking about it? Warner Bros., which has just announced release dates for a few hotly anticipated films, is looking towards the future.
First up, the studio has set a release date for fourth Matrix movie, featuring original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, as well as original director Lana Wachowski. The Matrix 4, or whatever it ends up being called (The Matrix: Patch Notes) is coming out May 21, 2021.
Fun side note: that’s the same day that Lionsgate is releasing John Wick 4, another big Keanu Reeves vehicle. We see what you did there, Warner Bros., you sneaky devils. Battle of the Keanu movies!
Next, Warner Bros. has scheduled Ezra Miller’s solo Flash movie to bow on July 1, 2022. The studio has reorganized the DC Extended Universe movies a bit since the (relative) failure of Justice League back in 2017. Ben Affleck is out as Batman (and Robert Pattinson is in) and all things Superman are on hold, but Aquaman and Wonder Woman movies are a go, and they haven’t given up on Miller’s take on the Flash. Best of luck.
In other news, Warner Bros. is moving up its new Mortal Kombat movie from March 2021 date to January 15, 2021. And distressingly, Taika Waititi’s live-action take on the anime classic Akira has been taken off the schedule entirely. What’s another couple decades in development hell?
