Facebook goes all out with Game of Thrones-themed holiday party
By Ariba Bhuvad
Over the course of two days, Facebook employees flocked to Pier 80 to celebrate the year, which if you’ve been following the news you know was pretty up and down for them. Naturally, the party was Game of Thrones-themed, complete with a giant Iron Throne, dragons, White Walkers, and the like. Basically, all those present had a chance to completely immerse themselves in this fantastical world, and it looks glorious AF.
Thanks to social media, we’re able to get a tiny glimpse into the grand festivities — and I have to say, I am incredibly jealous. Greeting partiers at the door was a “Winterbook” map that labeled various locations throughout the “kingdom,” including a bar (“Courtyard Well”), a Braavos-themed photo-op (“Hall of Facebook”), and a first-aid center (“Healers Point”).
Of course, you can’t have a Game of Thrones party without an Iron Throne. And this one dwarfs the one Drogon burned down at the end of the series:
Just walking around the space made you feel like you were on the set of Game of Thrones. And if you wanted to battle, the party planners were ready with props:
Grab a drink and step into the winch at Castle Black with your coworkers:
Ever wanted to ascend the Wall? Facebook employees got to (pretend to) experience that with the help of some green screen magic:
Fun side not: As I was perusing through some of these images, I unexpectedly stumbled across one of a childhood friend posing and channeling her inner Arya Stark!
The party even had a stuffed boar, much like the one that killed Robert Baratheon! Someone at Facebook did their homework.
They are posing their hearts out.
Below, Melisandre makes up with the White Walkers:
This is what Jon Snow might look like if he attended the Met Gala:
They also had a marching band performing “The Rains of Castamere.” How’s that for a balance of somber and celebratory? Flip to the last image in this set to see them in action:
Where are the dragons in all of this? Don’t worry, they weren’t forgotten. In fact, they were willing to whisk employees away into the sky!
Is there a chance that employees can bring their family members to these parties? If so, I think I’ll need to have a conversation with my sister.
