Brandon Routh talks playing Superman again in Crisis on Infinite Earths

Brandon Routh didn’t miss a beat putting donning that Superman suit once again as part of The CW’s epic Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event this past month. And might I add, he looked great.

It was just 13 years ago that Routh first took on the role of Superman in Superman Returns, but he never came back for a repeat performance…until now. Speaking to SYFY Wire, Routh shared his delight over being Superman once again, and talked about what it meant to wear the famous ‘S’ symbol upon his chest.

"For me, it’s one experience just being [in the suit]. But it’s also very impactful when somebody else sees you in it. Grant Gustin, who plays the Flash, is a big Superman fan. No secret there. But to have two Supermen at once, he was just kind of beside himself. It was very sweet and very heartwarming to see him geeking out about Superman."

Grant Gustin wasn’t alone in that excitement. I think all of us were squealing as multiple versions of Superman — from Routh to Tom Welling reprising his Smallville role to  ‎Tyler Hoechlin as the Arrowverse’s own Superman — graced our screens.

All that said, I think the stand-out Superman moment from the Crisis so far was watching Routh’s Superman and Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman battle each other.

Naturally, it was a bit nerve-wracking for Routh, but in the end, it all turned out A-okay.

"When I knew that we were going to be fighting each other, I’m always a little bit hesitant about how that’s gonna work. Because I don’t think good guys should be fighting good guys. I was jealous, actually, because [Hoechlin’s] cape seemed to come off much easier than mine. So I tended to keep mine on and he was getting cool. But he’s more of a veteran with his suit than I was with my suit."

I don’t know what’s in store for the final two episodes of the Crisis crossover, but more of Brandon Routh’s Superman can only be a good thing.
