Anjli Mohindra and Laura Fraser have been confirmed as guest stars in the upcoming new series of Doctor Who!

We’ve got some more details regarding Series 12 of Doctor Who. This time, it’s some rather interesting news on casting. It’s recently been revealed that Anjli Mohindra and Laura Fraser will appear in Jodie Whittaker’s second series as the Thirteenth Doctor.

Mohindra’s casting is especially interesting, as this isn’t the first time she’s been in the Doctor Who universe. From the second to the final season of the spin-off series, Mohindra played series regular Rani Chandra in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

While she’s not playing the same character in Series 12 (which is a bit of a shame, as it would have been fantastic to catch up on at least one of Sarah Jane’s team), it’s definitely exciting to see Anjli Mohindra back in the Doctor Who universe. Unsurprisingly, she seems pretty happy about it herself.

"As a huge fan of the last series, it’s a bit of a dream come true getting to work opposite Jodie, Mandip, Tosin and of course after all these years, to work with Bradley again! There’s something undeniably special about Jodie’s Doctor, and to be bringing some terror to the joint was rather fun indeed."

Bradley Walsh had appeared in the Sarah Jane story The Day of the Clown, which was also Rani’s introduction story. So it’s nice to have a casting reunion there.

Laura Fraser (perhaps best known for her role of Lydia in Breaking Bad) will feature in one of the upcoming episodes for Series 12.

Fitting casting

Laura Fraser – who’s appeared in several TV series, including The MissingThe Loch, and of course, Breaking Bad – is also excited to appear in Series 12.

"I love this episode and couldn’t resist playing such an intense character. I watched Doctor Who every week as a child, so it was a massive thrill to be asked to take part in such an iconic show."

If her major TV roles are anything to go by, Fraser is definitely great at handling intense characters. So whoever she’s playing, this sounds like a fantastic bit of casting, at least if that description is anything to go by. Executive Producer Matt Strevens certainly seems to think that both Fraser and Mohindra have been cast perfectly.

"It was a real joy to welcome Anjli and Laura to the show. We’ve wanted to work with them since we started and have found the perfect characters for them to show off their talent and range – both formidable in very different ways."

I’m eager to discover what characters they’ll be playing in the upcoming series, as well as what else we’ll find out about Series 12 before it finally premieres.
