The Witcher is out, and people like it. Netflix must like it, too, because it already renewed the show for a second season, and this was before it premiered. We don’t know exactly when we’re getting more episodes, but you can rest assured that we’ll be getting new adventures featuring Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan)…someday.
In fact, the word is that Netflix may start shooting as early as February of next year. When it does, it’ll need to have a bunch of new actors, because the story is about to expand. Season 1 ended with the Battle of Sodden, as the mages of the Continent fought against the invading Nilfgaardian army. Meanwhile, Geralt and Ciri finally met up. If yo’ve read Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski, you know where their story is going next. If not, I’ll try to keep spoilers to a minimum.
In the final episode of season 1, Geralt got bit by a zombie and had some tripped-out fever dreams. During his ravings, he said the name “Vesemir.” Although it hasn’t been explored on the show yet, Veremir is Geralt’s mentor, an older witcher who trained him at Kaer Morhen, the witcher’s keep. Here’s how showrunner Lauren Hissrich describes the character:
Without getting too much into, it’s very likely that Vesemir will show up in season 2. And who should play him? Well, why not Mark Hamill, who just lately played the grizzled, older version of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy? That’s the suggestion made by one Twitter user, and Hamill himself is on board…even though he has no idea what The Witcher is.
So there you go. It’s the holidays, Mark: watch The Witcher and direct message Hissrich. The sequel trilogy is over so why not start in on a new gig?
We have no idea when The Witcher season 2 is going to premiere, but if the first season is as popular as Netflix is clearly hoping, sooner is better.
