Cara Dune (Gina Carano) in Lucasfilm’s THE MANDALORIAN.

Cara Dune

She’s armed, she’s bad and she’s ready to go toe-to-toe with a Mandalorian. Cara Dune has an impressive pedigree, having served as a shock trooper in the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. Once the action abated, she left the military and by 9 ABY she’s working on her own as a mercenary:

"“Saw most of my action mopping up after Endor. Mostly Ex-Imperial Warlords. They wanted it fast and quiet. They’d send us in on the drop ships. No support, just us. Then when the Imps were gone, the politics started. We were peacekeepers, protecting delegates, suppressing riots. Not what I signed up for.” — Cara Dune (“Chapter Four: Sanctuary”)"

Chapter 4. Gina Carano is Cara Dune in THE MANDALORIAN exclusively on Disney+

Cara Dune is played by actor/MMA star Gina Carano, and Mando first runs into her in “Chapter Four: Sanctuary” on the remote planet of Sorgan; she claims to be relaxing in early retirement (an odd claim for a woman who gets bored easily when there isn’t plenty of blaster action). After an opening bout of hand-to-hand combat, the two warriors soon team up to defend a helpless krill farming village from a band of Klatooinian raiders.

Cara Dune’s tattoos carry substantial meaning to her character. Her arm tattoo is a link to her days fighting in the Galactic Civil War, and to the soldiers she served with. The little tattoo under Dune’s eye is also significant, as Carano explains: “[T]he eye tattoo has a much deeper meaning once we get into it. Obviously, it’s a Rebel tattoo, but there’s much more to that story. So, I’m excited for that.”
