The final episode of The Mandalorian dropped on Disney+ earlier today, and it was glorious. From start to finish, this show has been a delight, an easily digestible action romp with enough depth of feeling for us to get really attached. And of course Baby Yoda is adorable.
We’ve known for a while that Disney was prepping another season of the show, but we didn’t know how long we would have to wait to watch it. As it ends up, we won’t have to wait very long, as showrunner Jon Favreau just announced that The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere in the fall of 2020!
First of all, that’s great! The show was excellent overall, and the season finale had a terrific mix of payoff and setup that already has us eager to see what happens next. Of late, there’s been a problem with shows like Westworld and Stranger Things and Game of Thrones going years between new seasons, but Disney knows that they’re public isn’t going to stand for that. Disney has a hot commodity with The Mandalorian, and airing the second season a year after the first will keep momentum going.
Second of all, how like Disney to make the announcement about season 2 on literally the same day as season 1 concludes. They know how to capitalize on buzz.
And third of all, I have absolutely no clue what that green pig statue thing is. Anyone know?
