Rodrigo Santoro teases Westworld season 3: “It just blew me away”

When Westworld returns to HBO for its third season in 2020, the story will move from inside the titular part to the outside world, our world. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) is free of the cage her human creators built for her, and no one is safe.

Two other characters — Maeve (Thandie Newton) and Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) — remain behind. As you can see in the trailer, they at least pay a visit to an as-yet-unseen Delos park: Warworld, built to resemble Italy during World War II, because who wouldn’t want to spend vacation there?

Speaking to People, Santoro talked about what to expect from season 3. Will this season have more clarity than the last two, both of which were famous for playing games with different timelines?

“More clarity? I don’t know about that,” Santoro said. “There’s not much you can talk about the show, but I can say that it goes to a very different place. I’m very excited for my character…Hector and Maeve are still kind of together, but there’s a whole new chapter for these guys now. It’s very excited. I can’t talk much .”

Like anybody at HBO, Santoro is forbidden from saying too much. How about describing the season in three words? “You. Cannot. Miss. It.” That’s four, but we’ll let it slide.

“And I’m not just promoting it,” he continued. “It just blew me away when I read it. It goes to a completely different level.”

Finally, Santoro was asked what he liked most about his character. “The favorite part is also the most challenging part, which is not knowing a backstory, and playing an artificial intelligence that has no backstory,” he said. “There’s nothing I can grab on and , ‘Okay, this is the character.'”

"I’ve been learning who Hector is playing him. So it’s very challenging, but in a way it’s very freeing as well. I can’t compare Hector with any other character that I played before. It’s a very different process. It’s very intense, but at the same time, I learn a lot."

We don’t yet have an exact date for Westworld season 3, but if I were a betting man, I’d say to look for it around April or May.
