Game of Thrones was the year’s most torrented show…for the seventh time

Love it or hate it, the eighth and final of Game of Thrones has joined its previous outings to snag the title of Most Torrented Show of the Year. That’s seven years in a row the show has done that, and that includes 2018, when it wasn’t on the air. According to TorrentFreakThrones edged out another HBO hit — Chernobyl — for the number one spot in 2019.

If you’re wondering how the rest of the list goes, here’s the top 10:

  1. Game of Thrones
  2. Chernobyl
  3. The Mandalorian
  4. The Big Bang Theory
  5. Vikings
  6. The Walking Dead
  7. The Flash
  8. Rick and Morty
  9. Supergirl
  10. Arrow

As you can see, The Mandalorian skyrocketed into the third spot, even though it premiered late in 2019, on November 12. The show probably owes some of its popularity with pirates to the fact that Disney+ will not launch in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain until March 31, 2020.

Since Game of Thrones is over forever and Chernobyl was a limited series, The Mandalorian will have a shot at the top spot when it comes back for a second season this year, but it’ll have to contend with Vikings — which is in the middle of its final season — and The Walking Dead, which will air the back half of its tenth season in February.

We’ve also got Westworld season 3 coming up, and Star Trek: Picard will hit CBS All Access on January 23. Both shows are highly anticipated, so expect them to make a run at the top 10.

Who’s gonna take Game of Thrones’ as the most pirated show on Earth? Step right up.
