Hey, remember six months ago — back during that other decade — when we got some information on The New Mutants, a long-dormant X-Men spinoff movie featuring Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams? The movie had been languishing for years — the first teaser was released all the way back in 2017 — but there was a small glimmer of hope we’d see the film in 2020. Well, 2020 is here, and we’ve finally got an official trailer, as well as a release date!

Ooh, spooky. This is the scary X-Men movie.

So Maisie Williams is playing Rahne Sinclair, aka Wolfsbane, who’s basically a werewolf. She’s joined by Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton, who plays Sam Guthrie, aka Cannonball. Also on board are:

  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Colossus’ sister, Illyana Rasputin/Magik
  • Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot:
  • Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage
  • Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes

The New Mutants hits theaters on April 3. Williams and company filmed this years ago, so watching it is kind of like time travel!

In other trailer news, we’ve got a few new TV spots for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard!

In case you’re not a huge The Next Generation Trekkie, allow me to tell you why CBS All Access would have feature the song “Blue Skies” in the teaser. You know what? I’ll just show you:

You see, the android Data (Brent Spiner) was destroyed in Star Trek: Nemesis, but before that, he copied all of his memories into his android brother, B-4. At the end of Nemesis, Picard — who is grieving after the loss of his dear friend — tries to help B-4 become the android his brother obviously hoped he’d be, but he has a lot of trouble. Frustrated, Picard walks out of the room and overhear’s B-4 humming “Blue Skies.”

And that leads us to our final Picard TV spot:

Yes, that’s B-4 painting in Picard’s vineyard. The people behind this show know their Trek history.

Star Trek: Picard premieres on CBS All Access on January 23.

What new genre show can become “the next Game of Thrones”?. dark. Next
