Get a first look at the “Green Arrow & The Canaries” backdoor pilot

The Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover may be over this week, but there is still plenty of Arrowverse to look forward to. Case in point? The Green Arrow and The Canaries backdoor pilot airs next week, and we have our first look.

A backdoor pilot is an episode of another show — in this case Arrow — used to set up a spinoff series. Some fans aren’t happy about an entire episode being dedicated to anyone but the Green Arrow himself, especially considering that this is Arrow’s final season, but I’m super-excited to see what this is all about, especially because it involves three of Team Arrow’s fiercest female characters: Mia Smoak/Queen (Katherine McNamara), Laurel (Katie Cassid) and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy).

When the backdoor pilot airs next Tuesday, it will pick up after the events of Crisis. Mia Smoak will be back in Star City 2040 (her original timeline), likely processing the loss of her father (we’ll have to see what happens). The episode will focus on Dinah and Laurel going to 2040 to ask Mia for help with a case. I’m guessing their chemistry will lead them to realize that they belong together as a team…of Canaries.

The CW has released a bunch of new images from the series. Check them out below!

More female-centric superhero shows have been a long time coming, with Supergirl kicking it off and Batwoman continuing the streak. I’m stoked to see these three women work together, especially because we’ve had glimpses of them doing their thing on Arrow already.

Don’t miss this exciting episode next week on January 21!

dark. Next. A Fire & Blood paperback edition is coming, with new illustrations!
