Netflix’s The Witcher series has been a huge success, even becoming the most in-demand streaming series in the world, and there’s a second season on the way. It’s also inspired people to get into the eight-book Witcher novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski. In fact, thanks to the success of the show, there’s going to be a huge reprint of over half a million new books in the US!

The publisher of the series, Orbit Books, has seen terrific sales of The Witcher novels across all formats: books, ebooks and audiobooks. And now they need more physical stock to satisfy the “exceptional demand” of new fans. The publisher says that increased book sales were evident since the beginning of last year, in anticipation of the TV show’s release on December 20. “We’re aware that the novels might not be available everywhere at this time, but our inventory team and printers are working incredibly hard and all books will be back in stock and flying out of our warehouse very shortly,” reads the press release.

Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich took Twitter to express how thrilled she was with the news:

And it’s not just the Witcher books that are getting a boost. The show has also reignited interest in the bestselling video game series. On January 1, a Twitter user posted an interesting image displaying game analytics for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on SteamSince the show debuted, the game has already surpassed its record for the most active players, coming in at over 100,000…a whole four years after the game first released!

It will be interesting to see how long The Witcher can sustain this. It’s got off to the best possible start. With a large fanbase already behind it and the backing of Netflix for future seasons, there’s a chance it could stay at the forefront of fantasy for years to come.

The Witcher season 1 is now streaming on Netflix, with season 2 probably arriving in 2021.
