The Witcher, Netflix’s dark and gritty fairytale series, premiered to tremendous success as the most in-demand streaming series worldwide. Viewers are enjoying everything from the brutally choreographed fight scenes to the captivating fantasy scenery. Henry Cavill has been a pleasure to watch in the lead role of Geralt of Rivia, but the thing people may now know The Witcher best for is its music.

Specifically, the catchy song that bard Jaskier sings in the second episode, “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher,” has gone viral. And with good reason:

But up until now, there were only a handful of unofficial ways to listen.  For a long time now, anxious fans have been pleading for Netflix to release an official Witcher soundtrack to the public.

That’s Sonya Belousova, one of the show’s two composers, interacting with fans. Now, almost a month later, Volume 1 of the official Witcher soundtrack is on the way. The full thing will arrive on January 24, although “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher” is available now.

Speaking with fellow composer Giona Ostinelli on the Awards Daily podcast, Belousova went into detail about the challenges of creating the show’s sound:

"As soon as we received the script and the scripts were so unique, we were immediately like we wanted to be involved in this. We wanted to be immersed in this universe. And because the universe of The Witcher is so vast and the continent is so diverse, basically we learned a lot of instruments from all over the world which were custom made for us."

The music does indeed have a global ambiance, with influences from many different cultures and styles. The main theme of the series sets the tone from the very first scene, invoking feelings of  adventure and getting the adrenaline pumping.

The music may also ring a bell for fans of the Witcher video game series. When working on that soundtrack, composer Mikolai Stroinski said he drew from Slavic, Bulgarian, Irish and Scottish influences.

In just a few days, fans will be able to treat themselves to The Witcher soundtrack, although be forewarned: it may compel you to embark on yet another rewatch of the series.
