Heroic Game of Thrones extra Andrew McClay is up for a BACKY Award
By Dan Selcke
The Screen Actors Guild Awards and their ilk may get all the attention, but Hollywood is a many splendored place full of professionals deserving of honors, even if we don’t think about them very much. In that spirit, lemme tell you about the BACKY Awards, which honor “those who bring realism to film and television.”
"The BACKY’s are awarded to background actors, stand-in’s, casting directors, and more!"
With categories like Best Group Performance, Best Background Casting and Best Stand-In (with separate categories for male and female stand-ins), we’re basically talking about the Oscars for extras, which I am fully behind.
Among the nominees for Best Actor is Andrew McClay, whom Game of Thrones fans might remember as the extra playing a Stark soldier in HBO’s documentary The Last Watch, which took us behind the scenes of the show’s final season. McClay played a soldier on the show for years and was featured in a lot of key scenes. And if you watched the documentary, you know that he loves both Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire and put his absolute all into his job.
"[SPOILERS] THIS GUY IS TRUE HERO OF WESTEROS from gameofthrones"
And the best part is: you can vote for him by clicking right here! Here’s his competition in the Best Actor category:
- Ketan Majmudar as Teacher in Blinded by the Light
- Andrew McClay as Soldier in Game of Thrones
- Kyle Merryman as Radio Station Engineer in Dolemite Is My Name
- Jason Mulcahy as Vaudeville Villain in Little Women
- Phil Nardozzi as Bartender in Mindhunter
Personally, I’m going McClay all the way.
Voting is open through Monday, January 27, while the awards themselves will be handed out on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. EST on the BACKY Awards Facebook page. And you can vote once per day until the polls close, so feel free to use that info how you will.
