Disney aims to break hearts with live-action Bambi
By Ariba Bhuvad
Disney, do you really want to make us cry incessantly? It would appear so, as we’ve learned that the studio is remaking Bambi, the latest in its parade of live-action remakes of its classic animated films.
Honestly, I’m not sure I can handle the sadness and heartbreak. I’m still scarred for life over what happens to Bambi’s mother.
Variety revealed that Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess is a Loser) will be teaming up to write the script. That’s an interesting choice of writers given what they’ve worked on recently. A love story and a superhero story = heartbreaking tale of carefree animals beset by human hunters? Looks like it.
Now, I’m all for everything Disney-related, but I’m not wild about the choice of Bambi as a candidate for a live-action remake. I felt the same way about Lady & the Tramp and am wary of the live-action Pinocchio, all of them older Disney movies that are still wonderful to watch today.
Given that it was made back in 1942 and is one of the original movies from Disney’s time, it just doesn’t seem like the appropriate movie to give the “live-action” makeover to. I felt the same about Lady & the Tramp and quite possibly will about Pinocchio as well.
Anything, Disney does, I’ll watch, but I’m just not feeling Bambi. Although granted, a lot of that is because I don’t want to watch Bambi’s mother die again. But ready or not…
