Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr) has never watched Game of Thrones
Paul Kaye played the Red Priest Thoros of Myr on Game of Thrones for three seasons. If you don’t remember Thoros, here’s a quick primer: Thoros kept Beric Dondarrion alive, resurrecting him each time he was slain in battle. Of course, after his death in season 7’s “Beyond the Wall,” Beric lost his get-out-of-death-free-card, and died for good during the Battle of Winterfell in season 8.
Having a brief but important role on the greatest television show in the history of forever would normally be a great reason to tune in and watch yourself in action, but not so for Kaye, who recently spoke with The Sun about his time on the series. “The only time I ever got recognised was after the third series of Game Of Thrones, because I had the top knot and beard,” he said. “Now I’d have blended in, as that look has oddly been adopted by estate agents.”
"I’ve still never seen Game Of Thrones, so that works for me."
Kaye also revealed that he would do special Game of Thrones-related messages for fans, even recording some in Dothraki, though he never had an opportunity to speak it on the show.
FYI, a fun Paul Kaye fact: before Game of Thrones, he was most noted for playing a Borat-type character named Dennis Pennis who would crash celebrity events and ask edgy questions. We wonder if he watches that nowadays either:
But seriously, while it’s hard to imagine someone on a show as big as Game of Thrones not tuning in to see how they look onscreen, we have to remember that for a lot of these actors, it’s just a day on the job. Although there are others who get more personally involved:
