“This is a ghost story”—Check out the teaser for Altered Carbon season 2!
By Dan Selcke
It’s been a couple years since Netflix aired Altered Carbon, its glossy sci-fi show about a future where “technology has conquered death,” and people hop back and forth between different bodies called “sleeves.” It prolongs life, but it also creates a cyberpunk hellscape where nobody is who they say they are, everybody is running a scam, and holographic versions of long-dead horror authors can help solve mysteries.
The first season centered around revolutionary-turned-detective-for-hire Takeshi Kovacs, played by Joel Kinnaman. Kinnaman is gone, but Kovacs is still the main character, thanks to that sleeve-hopping trick. He’s now played by Anthony Mackie, best known as Sam Wilson in the Marvel movies. Check him out in action below!
“We are trailed by specters. They cling to us like shadows. But if you chase after your ghosts, you just might become one.” That is some real noir stuff right there.
Other new cast members include Simone Missick (Luke Cage), Dina Shihabi (Jack Ryan) and James Saito (The Terror). Some of the notable folk returning include Chris Conner — who plays a holographic version of Edgar Allan Poe and kinda/sorta Kovacs’ best friend — and Renee Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer, Kovacs’ mentor and long-lost love. The story, which will diverge from the source books by Richard K. Morgan, will dive into her backstory, according to the synopsis:
"Altered Carbon Season 2 finds Takeshi Kovacs, the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries-old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer. After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe, Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?"

Still odd that Edgar Allan Poe is a character in this. Or did I mean wonderful?
