Phew, the cat who played Ser Pounce on Game of Thrones is still alive
Thank the Seven! Womble, the Maine Coon cat who played Ser Pounce on Game of Thrones, is still alive, according to HuffPost. Let’s take a minute to give thanks for this wonderful news.
“He is owned by us still and is retired with one of our trainers,” said Jo Vaughan, an animal training specialist with Birds and Animals. That company trained several of the furry stars on Game of Thrones, including the Inuit dogs that played direwolves in season 1 as well as Ramsay Bolton’s hounds in season 6. “They are all pet animals and many are now enjoying their days of retirement!”
Womble is actually a proper movie star, as he also played Mrs. Norris — Filch’s prying cat — in the Harry Potter movies. I’ll bet he has the fanciest cat tree we’ve ever seen.
As for Ser Pounce, according to Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, he met a fate not fit even HBO. “Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive,” he told Entertainment Weekly a while back. “So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air.”
That’s different from what actor Dean-Charles Chapman, who played King Tommen Baratheon, wanted for his furry friend. “I like to think he’d also move on with his life and get a girlfriend maybe,” he said.
Our theory? Ser Pounce left King’s Landing after the Sept of Baelor exploded and somehow made it onto the boat Arya Stark is taking round the world. He’ll be a main character in the sequel. We’re calling it now.
