Release windows for Marvel shows and The Mandalorian season 2!
By Dan Selcke
Disney+ hit with a bang when it launched in November, racking up subscribers like nobody’s business and blowing people like me away with The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars show. Honestly, I did not expect to like that series as much as I did, but now I can’t wait for season 2.
But if I’m being honest, there hasn’t been a lot on Disney+ to keep me coming back after The Mandalorian wrapped up. If you have young children, I’m sure it’s great, but I’ve found more to like on Netflix and HBO’s over-the-top service, so far as streaming services go.
But this is Disney, and you know they have stuff up their sleeve. To wit, CEO Bob Iger was recently talking with investors on the company’s quarterly earnings call, and revealed the release months for a few highly anticipated series, including:
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: August
- The Mandalorian season 2: October
- WandaVision: December
And just like that, I’m back on board.
The Mandalorian already has my attention, and kudos to Disney for getting us more of the show pretty quickly. Will the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda meet more of the Child’s species? What legacy characters might they encounter? I’m in, I want it, give it to me.
The news kids on the block are The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, both shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring the actors from the movies — that’s Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Elizabeth Olson as the Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision. We don’t know exactly how these shows will turn out, but Marvel has an excellent track record, and it looks like Kevin Feige and company are going to use the expanded canvas of a TV show as an opportunity to get weird. Did we mention that part of WandaVision takes place in a black-and-white sitcom universe? Color me extremely intrigued.
There are two other Marvel shows in the works — Loki and Hawkeye — but they won’t come out this year. And that’s a good thing, cause there’s only so much hype I can handle at a time.
Personally, my heart is still with The Mandalorian — I hope the quick turnaround time doesn’t mean season 2 will dip in quality — but all of them look interesting. Which are you most looking forward to?
