Stuntwoman on Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show injured during rehearsals
By Dan Selcke
The good news is that Amazon is off and running on its wildly expensive Lord of the Rings show. There’s a cast in place and shooting is ready to begin in New Zealand. We still don’t know a ton about the show beyond the fact that it’s set during the Second Age of Middle-earth and that it will feature some familiar characters like Galadriel, but we’re excited to find out more.
Unfortunately, there’s been an accident on set in these early days. The New Zealand Herald reports that stuntwoman Elissa Cadwell has been injured during rehearsals. According to the Herald, she fell into tanks of water as planned, but struck her head on a bolt in the process. One witness described the resulting injuries as “traumatic.”
We don’t know what character Cadwell was standing in for, and the possibilities seem too numerous to be worth much speculation. We hope Cadwell has a speedy recovery.
As for the show itself, we hope this doesn’t stop things before they begin, but we weren’t likely to see the series anytime soon regardless. The Lord of the Rings is one of two big fantasy series Amazon is currently working on, the other being an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series. That one is pretty deep into filming, so we can likely expect to see it by 2021 at the latest, and perhaps even later this year. The Lord of the Rings show remains shrouded in mystery.
