Torchwood news: Gwen Cooper and Martha Jones are reunited in Dissected
By James Aggas
Martha Jones is reunited with Gwen Cooper, in Freema Agyeman’s first ever audio for Big Finish Productions, Torchwood: Dissected!
This is a story that we’ve been very excited about for quite some time. Back in 2008, during the second series of Torchwood, Freema Agyeman guest starred as Martha Jones. Across three episodes – Reset, Dead Man Walking and A Day in the Death – Martha got to meet and work with the Torchwood team. We never saw her again in the spin-off, although there were plans to include her in the third season, Children of Earth.
Today, Martha is finally reunited with at least one member of the Torchwood team: Gwen Cooper. In Big Finish’s brand new audio release Torchwood: Dissected, Gwen is asking Martha for a favor. More than that – they’re going to find out what has happened in each other’s lives since they last met.
This is Freema Agyeman’s first audio for Big Finish, so this is definitely huge. The fact that it’s set after all of Martha’s adventures – both in Doctor Who and in Torchwood – is particularly exciting, as we’re sure to learn brand new things about what the former companion has done since.
Martha Jones is back! Freema Agyeman reprises her role in a brand new audio adventure with Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper in Torchwood: Dissected.

Two-hander
As well as exploring what happened to Martha since we last saw her, Dissected is also notable for being a two-hander for both Freema Agyeman and Eve Myles. Something that Freema Agyeman is rather excited about.
"I love that it’s just her and Gwen throughout this whole story. They get to go on their journey. There’s so much ground that has to be covered, there’s so much history there, between them and their relationship."
But while this is the first time that Martha and Gwen have met in a long time, the same isn’t true for Freema Agyeman and Eve Myles, as the latter reveals.
"Freema is great. I was introduced to her on Torchwood, of course, and we’ve done a lot of conventions together, and a really kooky film, Eat Locals, where we played vampire girls. And we’ve always kept in touch. So when you get a script like this, and it’s led by two females, you’ve got to jump on board straight away and enjoy it as much as possible. It’s good to be back together."
This should be a particularly exciting script. Tim Foley is a consistently strong writer for Torchwood on audio. Since 2017, he’s given us some fantastic stories in the series, and Dissected looks set to be another great example of that.
