Netflix is rebooting the Transformers franchise with a trio of upcoming movies: War for Cybertron, the first production from the newly formed Rooster Teeth Studios, with Polygon Pictures handling the actual animation. Check out the trailer for the first movie, Siege:

Cybertron is the homeworld of the Autobots and Deceptions, a race of sentient transforming robotic lifeforms that are, as you can see, in a war for it. As ever, Megatron (Jason Marnocha), the leader of the Decepticons, is after the Allspark, an MacGuffin that will give him untold power. Opposing him are Optimus Prime (Jake Foushee) and his Autobots. Let war be joined.

In looks like Transformers: Siege will take place entirely on Cybertron, but the follow-up to this movie is called Earthrise, so we should be on more familiar ground soon. In addition to Optimus Prime and Megatron, also expect to see characters like Bumblebee, Ultra Magnus, Jetfire, Wheeljack, and Ironhide, with Decepticons Shockwave, Soundwave, Starscream, and Skywarp.

Gavin Hignight (Transformers: Cyberverse) and Brandon Easton (Transformers: Rescue Bots) are on the writing team for War For Cybertron, while F.J. DeSanto (Transformers: Titans ReturnPower of the Primes) is serving as showrunner. It’s a little odd that War for Cybertron has a showrunner at all, since it’s more a movie trilogy than a show, but Netflix is the place to experiment with formatting, so have at it.

There’s no release date for Transformers: Siege yet. Ditto for Earthrise, and we don’t even have a title for movie number three. Still, the first movie can’t be that far off if Netflix is running a trailer.
