Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss back in action on The Matrix 4 set

It sort of feels like we’re living in the Matrix because, after 17 years, we’re waiting for the next installment in what was once just a trilogy of science fiction films. The Matrix 4 doesn’t hit theaters until May 2021, but it recently began filming, and a new behind-the-scenes photo has us more pumped than ever about the upcoming sequel. The photo in question shows Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), both of whom starred in the original films, together again — and they’re riding a motorcycle!

How Neo and Trinity have come to be riding a motorcycle in the Matrix 4 after both of them perished in the previous movie remains to be seen, but the two characters look pretty intense in the shot:

We don’t know enough about the plot of the fourth Matrix installment to guess what these two are up to here, but it’s probably safe to assume they’re attempting to overthrow some sort of dystopian society (again). The bike is very on brand for the franchise, and it’s nice to see Moss driving the thing.

In addition to these two reprising their roles, Lana Wachowski is returning as director for this new chapter. Other big-name actors confirmed for the film include Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, and Jessica Henwick. It’s possible we’ll see a few of them in future behind-the-scenes images and videos, which are sure to surface as filming continues.

And casting continues. Deadline reports that Brian J. Smith, a veteran of the Wachowskis’ Netflix series Sense8, is joining the team as well.

Hopefully, fans will also get further insight into what this movie is about. Because honestly? We still have no idea where they’re going with this.
