In news that came as a shock to me, Priah Ferguson — who plays Lucas’ little sister Erica Sinclair on Netflix’s Stranger Things — was not a series regular cast member during the show’s third season. She was in it, of course — you might even say she stole it — but apparently she was conly considered to have a recurring role, which I find hard to believe, because when I think back on that season one of the first things I remember is Erica crawling through vents at the mall, extolling the virtues of capitalism, and generally bending characters three times her size to her will.
Still, all’s well that ends well. Variety now reports that Ferguson has been promoted to the role of series regular for the show’s upcoming fourth season, sharing billing with people like Mille Bobby Brown (Eleven) and Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers). Thank goodness.
And the next season of Stranger Things is shaping up to be a big one. Showrunners the Duffer brothers have hinted that it may take the gang outside the confines of Hawkins, Indiana and break into the wider world. And indeed, Netflix already dropped a trailer showing Jim Hopper (David Harbour) in a very new environment:
Will the Stranger Things crew have to travel to Soviet Russia to free Hopper? And if they do, will Erica give Mikhail Gorbachev a look so scathing he will be scared into letting Hopper go? All signs point to yes.
Stranger Things season 4 is filming right now, although we don’t know exactly when it will drop. Cross your fingers for a 2020 release.
