A documentary about late Game of Thrones star Neil Fingleton is coming
By Dan Selcke
Neil Fingleton played Mag the Mighty, the giant who died fighting the Night’s Watch during the Battle of Castle Black, on Game of Thrones, as well as appearing in several other shows and movies, including Doctor Who, X-Men: First Class and Avengers: Age of Ultron. At 7’8”, Fingleton was known as Britain’s Tallest Man, and had a rich life that included stints in professional basketball in the U.S. before returning to England to pursue acting, studying with icons like Warwick Davis.
Fingleton died in February 2017 due to suspected heart failure. He was 36.
Fingleton gained many fans over the course of his career, especially in his native England. Now, filmmaking Paul Stainthorpe is putting together a documentary about his life, called Big Smooth.
“Neil’s ‘never give up’ attitude is an inspiration to us all and his life story encourages us all to strive to reach our potential,” Stainthorpe said. “It’s been really great to meet Neil’s family and a truly humbling experience. I can’t thank them enough for putting their trust in me.”
Stainthorpe is encouraging anyone who knew Fingleton and who’s interested in contributing to the movie to write to bigsmooth@lonepinepictures.co.uk. This sounds like a great project to remember Fingleton by.
