Disney is making a Beauty and the Beast series for streaming service, Disney+, according to Variety! The prequel show will star Josh Gad and Luke Evans, who played LeFou and Gaston in the studio’s tremendously successful 2017 live-action remake.
This is what I love about this streaming platform. As a child, we saw all these animated movies and wanted more stories from them. I’d often wonder about the characters, about who they were before, or what became of them after.
Now we’re know, although we don’t have all the details. I imagine the show will dive deeper into who these two characters are and how they became friends. It’s interesting that Disney is focusing on the villains of the story.
Once Upon a Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are cowriting and showrunning the prequel, and they sound like a perfect fit. Their experience with Disney on OUAT speaks for itself, and they’ll surely do this story justice. Plus, it’s going to be a musical! Both Gad and Evans are Broadway vets, so they should be more than up to that.
Gad is also taking on the role of executive producer alongside Kitsis and Horowitz. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Beauty and the Beast kickstarted the wave of live-action remakes currently coming out of the studio. Might this start a trend of them making their way to the small screen?
