Last year, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams and signed a fantastically lucrative deal with WarnerMedia for his production company, Bad Robot. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on the first result of that deal: The Pinkerton, “a supernatural revenge thriller in what sources say is a Western setting” penned by 10 Cloverfield Lane writer Daniel Casey.

And that’s about all we know. We’re not even sure if this is a movie to be shown in theaters or if it’s being developed for HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s for HBO Max, since the company needs all the firepower it can get if it’s going to compete with the likes of Netflix and Disney+ when the service launches in May. Good luck, everyone!

As for the movie itself, the Pinkerton Detective agency is a real-life organization that made a name for itself working for corporations during America’s industrial revolution. And apparently they provided bodyguards for Abraham Lincoln? Didn’t work.

Anyway, maybe Abrams’ movie will look to the real-life history of the Pinkerton Detective agency for inspiration, but add in a dragon or a Frankenstein or something. I’ve seen worse. There’s no release date as of yet, so there’s plenty of time to fill in the details.
