WiC Watches: Avenue 5

Armando Iannucci is back with another HBO comedy. His last effort, Veep, was a caustic political satire that won a boatload of Emmys and had me completely hooked with its grim view on the political process, superb cast, and wickedly caustic dialog. Would that I could come up with these kinds of blistering insults:

For his followup, Iannucci is leaving American politics behind and rocketing off into space for a sci-fi show: Avenue 5, about a space-faring luxury liner that runs into turbulence during a tour of the galaxy and must chart a course for home. But under strained conditions, will the wealthy passengers and the crew be able to get there before killing each other?

It’s a premise ripe for satire, and I’m excited to see Iannucci take on a new genre. Will Avenue 5 be his biggest hit yet, or a failed experiment. We’ll be watching and reviewing each and every episode, starting…now!
