Batwoman production assistant Amanda Smith has been paralyzed after an on-set accident, according to Deadline. Smith suffered “severe spinal injuries” after “the bucket of a lift lowered onto her head,” according to the GoFundMe page her colleague Tyler Mancuzzo set up to raise funds for her rehabilitation.

Smith was working below the Georgia Viaduct in Vancouver when this accident occurred, leading to a burst vertebrae that called for emergency spinal surgery. A Warner Brothers TV rep released a statement to Deadline regarding the steps being taken to address what happened:

"A valued member of the Batwoman production team was recently injured during the preparation of a filming location in Vancouver. Our thoughts are with her for a speedy recovery. We are working closely with WorkSafeBC to provide any and all requested information. We continue to work to protect the health and safety of all our crews, casts and employees."

This unfortunate incident happened just two days before production on Batwoman had stopped due to fears over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

It isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred on the set of Batwoman. Just last summer, Ruby Rose, Batwoman herself, was injured while performing stunts and had to undergo surgery after nearly becoming paralyzed. You might recall, she shared a pretty graphic video of the ordeal on social media.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Smith, who will be undergoing intensive therapy and rehab to recover from the spinal surgery.

Stay safe, everyone!
