Indira Varma, currently appearing onstage with Emilia Clarke, contracts Coronavirus
By Corey Smith
As world leaders grapple with how to combat the spread of the Coronavirus around the globe, the entertainment industry continues to be hit hard.
At least one Game of Thrones confirmed earlier this week that they’d tested positive: Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane). Now Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand) has also revealed she’s contracted the virus, per her Instagram:
"I’m in bed with it and it’s not nice. Stay safe and healthy and be kind to your fellow people."
At the moment, Varma was performing in a production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at the Playhouse Theater in London’s West End, which has been shut down for the time being along with many other theaters. We hope for a speedy recover for her, and that the play is back on before too long.
We also wonder about Varma’s castmates, which as you can see in the photo above includes fellow Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen). Hopefully they haven’t caught anything.
Like Varma, it sounds like Hivju also contracted the virus in London, where Netflix recently ordered a deep clean of Arborfield Studios, where he was filming a part for the second season of The Witcher.
Of course, the virus is spreading globally; Tom Hanks was in Australia when he got it. Everyone out there, please stay safe. For more information about COVID-19, visit the CDC’s website or the website for your state’s Department of Health.
