DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Episode 508: “Romeo V Juliet: Dawn of Justness”

I know I’ve probably said this hundreds of times, but I love DC’s Legends of Tomorrow with all my heart. It’s my favorite Arrowverse show and always make me smile and leaves me feeling good at the end of every episode. However, this week’s episode broke my heart into a million little pieces because it was Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford’s final one on Legends.

It was so incredibly hard to say goodbye to the character of Ray Palmer because he’s been around since Arrow. Routh’s ability to bring optimism, happiness, and sunshine into every situation that Ray found himself in was one of the best things about him. I truly enjoyed his time and I’ll miss him dearly. In fact, even the character of Nora Darhk grew on me after this season so Ford will be missed too!

Okay, the episode: Nora and Ray got married on the last outing. He feels like it’s time to move on and he promised Papa Darhk as much. It’s easy for Ray to tell the group that he’s leaving after one final mission, but it’s Nate he can’t face.

They’ve become the best of friends, and saying goodbye to him was killing Ray. He doesn’t want the big reveal to get in the way of the final mission, so instead Ray goes off with the Legends to Elizabethan London to confront William Shakespeare.

Charlie leaves one part of the Loom of Fate with the famous playwright in the form of a ring. However, the Legends soon find out that Shakespeare had sold the ring off. While the boys try to come up with a game plan, Charlie quickly retrieves the ring back.

At first, I felt my heart drop into the pit of my stomach because I thought Ray’s final mission was already over. But Legends wasn’t going to do us dirty like that! Instead of heading back to the Waverider, they decide to stay back and get drunk, which works out because the girls are throwing a bachelorette party for Nora and getting drunk as well.

But in everyone’s inebriated state, Zari notices that the cover of Romeo and Juliet has changed to reflect what Shakespeare witnesses: the Legends drunkenly fighting with everyone in the bar with Ray’s Atom outfit flying around.

This means Shakespeare doesn’t write Romeo and Juliet as history remembers it, which means the mission isn’t over. The Legends have to help Shakespeare get back on track!

Amidst all of the madness of helping Shakespeare and putting on the Romeo and Juliet play to show the playwright its beauty, Ray struggles to tell Nate the truth. I really admire their strong bromance! We always see the empowering female friendships on this show, but Ray and Nate deserve the spotlight too! And I’m so glad they got it.

Can I just say their goodbye scene broke my heart? Did I mention my broken heart? I think I did.

Eventually, Nate does learn the truth, and while it angers him to no end, he’s able to get a hold of his emotions and say farewell to his best friend. Needless to say, Nate and the rest of the Legends are feeling the loss later that night, which gives us one of the season’s most hilariously touching scenes ever.

We’ll miss you, Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford! Wishing you all the best in whatever life has to offer you both and your adorable family next.

Grade: B+

There’s not much left to say after that, but we will be back next week with fewer Arrowverse shows to talk about, with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow on break until April.
