Well, the dust has settled on the first round of our Fandom Madness tournament. Sixty-four characters from sci-fi and fantasy entered, and 32 remain to battle it out in Round 2.
Like any good tournament, we saw plenty of popular characters move on, but there were a couple of upsets. Before we move on to voting, let’s go over a couple of highlights from Round 1.
In one especially close match-up, Black Panther edged out John Wick but just a few votes. My soul cries out for a recount, but we respect the people’s choice. Elsewhere, Sabrina Spellman of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina narrowly edged out Jake Sully of Avatar fame. I guess being the star of the second highest grossing film of all time isn’t what it used to be.
Or the highest grossing film, for that matter, as Iron Man went down to Netflix’s Lucifer. Iron Man is the first of our number one seeds to go down, leaving Rey, Geralt of Rivia and Jon Snow as the remaining three. Fellow standard bearer Superman, a two seed, lost his opening matchup to The Wheel of Time’s Moraine Damodred, so perhaps the time of the superhero is coming to an end.
Now, onto the second round. Here’s the new bracket:
The Twitter polls are not open for voting; we’ve embedded the lot of them below. Remember, this is all about who your favorite character is, not who would win in a fight, not who’s really really good looking, or anything like that.
Round 2 has some fun matchups: Captain America meets his dad bod counterpart from Stranger Things, the chosen ones square off as Jon Snow takes on Rand al’Thor, and Rey from Star Wars takes on The Witcher’s Yennefer of Vengerberg.
