Westworld is all about the how lifelike robots — called hosts — gain sentience and eventually start threatening the power of their human creators. It’s produced some pretty striking images over the years, like the sight of lead actor Even Rachel Wood (Dolores Abernathy) stripped of her flesh but for the skin on her neck and head, lying on a table with her inner machinery exposed to the camera:

The new gods are coming, and they are sleepy.
If you ask me, the eerie, high-tech imagery is the best thing about Westworld, which recently debuted its third season. That’s also what I thought of when I saw this photoshoot in PAPER Magazine, which featured Lady Gaga as the centerpiece of its “transformations” issue:
Lady Gaga has never been shy about going there visually, and these photos — taken to promote the release of her upcoming album Chromatica — are very much in keeping with the wild style journey she’s been on since exploding onto the scene over a decade ago.
And I am not making up the Westworld comparison. Robotic horses? That’s could be plucked straight from the opening credits to season 1!
Still, if you’re gonna crib ideas, crib from the best.
Chromatica is out April 10, while new episodes of Westworld air every Sunday night on HBO. The Coronavirus may be putting a stop to a lot of entertainment, but the well hasn’t run completely dry just yet.
